A Q+A WITH MIKO ON HIS NEW SONG, “I WASN’T MADE TO FALL IN LOVE.”

WHAT WAS GOING ON IN YOUR LIFE WHEN YOU FIRST GOT THE IDEA FOR “I WASN’T MADE TO FALL IN LOVE?” 

I wrote this song around the same time I wrote “Crushes.” I think I was frustrated and hopeless with my love life. The title says it all. I’m in a way better place now.

WAS THE WRITING PROCESS FOR THIS SONG DIFFERENT FROM YOUR PREVIOUS RELEASES? WHAT DOES YOUR CREATIVE PROCESS TYPICALLY LOOK LIKE?

Yes, I wrote it with my homie Mat Senechal on our first session together. I usually write alone and do the bare bone production on my own, but that time I just showed up at his place without anything prepared beforehand.

DID YOU HAVE A FAVORITE PART OF THE CREATIVE PROCESS?

Definitely writing the music at Mat’s place.

The instrumental section at 1:02. It reminds me of a Chili Peppers song.

WHAT ARE YOU MOST PROUD OF ABOUT THIS RELEASE? 

The video. To me, videoclips at the early stages of an artist’s career are always a delicate thing. I think people tend to overdo it. And when you overdo it with little to no budget, it can feel a little corny. That being said, I’m really happy with how this first video came out. It’s literally a month worth of footage of us messing around all over the city. Shoutout to my homie Guillaume Landry who directed it.
