TWENTY MINUTES LATER

all things music.

Who's up for Album of the Year!!??

Who's up for Album of the Year!!??

i, i - Bon Iver

The production on this album is insane. Most of it seemed to blend together, which (I guess?) is a good sign of a really cohesive body of work. Marion is hauntingly beautiful. The guitar. WOW. Rabi I love because of its lyrics. “We are weightless like a wayless beast/ So what is it we don't teach?” I can’t get over those words. In my opinion, it is these two songs that make the album award worthy.

Norman F***ing Rockwell! - Lana Del Rey

I’m a huge Lana Fan, so I’ve been listening to this album since its August release. It was produced by Jack Antonoff, who just might be my favorite person ever. Everything he touches is literal gold. JUST SAYING. Highlights of the album include Mariners Apartment Complex and How to Disappear. I love Lana, but I’m not sure this album stands out against her previous ones.

WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO? - Billie Eilish

I would be really surprised if this album didn’t take home Album of the Year. It’s beautifully written and produced. Streaming wise, the numbers are there. When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go is the most streamed album of 2019. Enough said.

thank u, next - Ariana Grande

I swear every time I blink Ariana Grande drops an Album. thank u, next dropped only 6 months after her previous studio album, sweetener. I seriously don’t know how she does it. It's hard to put out an album right after the last one—and it's even harder to put out a good one. Ari did it though. This is definitely an album that you can listen to all the way through. It's super consistent and builds nicely. I’m impressed.

I Used To Know Her - H.E.R.

I can’t believe I had never heard of this album before reading the list of 2020 grammy nominees. Why is nobody talking about this album? I’m not even kidding you there was a moment in each song where I had to pause for a second to just take it all in.

7 - Lil Nas X

It's hard to compare an 8 song album to a 14 song one. Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for the push for shorter songs and albums, but I feel this EP doesn’t cover as much ground as the other nominees. However, I’ll be the first to say that Old Town Road deserves song of the year. There. I said it.

Cuz I Love You - Lizzo

This album is one big dance party. It builds really nicely. Super cohesive and incredibly balanced. Having only listened to radio hits Truth Hurts and Juice, I was pleasantly surprised by tracks like Jerome and Heaven Help Me. In terms of getting the Grammy, I would say this album has a fighting chance.

Father Of The Bride - Vampire Weekend

I went to see Vampire Weekend on their Father of The Bride tour with my dad. I think that says a lot about how this album crosses generations. I was surprised to see both 15 and 50 year olds singing the words to every song. Sunflower is my fav track. It's also my dad’s favorite. Happy to see them come back after 6 years with such a strong fan base. Impressive.
